William B Oeland Tuesday, March 19, 1929 - Sunday, June 11, 2017

William Benjamin Oeland, 88, of Santa Maria, California, passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2017. Bill, as he was known, was born on March 19, 1929 in Trenton, Red Hollow County, Florida. Bill was the youngest of the seven children of Ernest Nathaniel Oeland and Lonibell Smith Oeland. At a young age, Bill and his family moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where he spent most of his childhood. As a young teenager, about the beginning of World War II, Bill's family moved to Flagstaff, Arizona, where they spent about 2 years. From there they moved to Tujunga, California, around 1944, where Bill graduated from Verdugo Hills High School in 1946.
After graduation, Bill worked with his father in the carpentry field. He married Barbara Allen Squire, whom he met in the youth group at Dunsmore Avenue Baptist Church, on August 20, 1949. He joined the U. S. Army National Guard in September of 1950, and was activated shortly thereafter to go to Korea for two years during the Korean Conflict.
Upon leaving the Army in 1952, Bill attended California Baptist College and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1955. He moved with his wife and two children, Beverly and Timothy, to Atascadero, California in 1958, working as a carpenter and building contractor.
Feeling the call of the Lord, in 1972, Bill returned to school at Golden Gate Theological Seminary to complete the requirements to become an ordained Baptist Minister. Bill pastored several churches in California, including Gracemont Baptist Church in Albany, Greenfield Baptist Church in Greenfield, and the chapel at Dry Bones Christian Faith Center and church campground.
In 1980, Bill and Barbara purchased the H&R Block franchise in Atascadero, and owned and operated it for 16 years.
Upon retirement, in 1999, Bill and Barbara moved to Santa Maria, California where they have lived to the present time.
Bill and Barbara loved traveling, and over the years visited all 50 states, mostly in their motor homes. Bill also loved singing and playing his guitar, bowling, golfing, and was an avid reader.
Bill is survived by his wife Barbara, to whom he was married for 67 years. He is also survived by his children, daughter Beverly Oeland Urick, and son Timothy Jay Oeland and their families. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and all of his brothers and sisters.

When we lose a loved one in death there's nothing but tears grief pain and sorrow. God has promised to eliminate this forever on a brand new earth life without end Revelation 21:1-5. To the family and friends of William please accept my deepest condolences.
