Anita Nadine Teixeira Saturday, July 13, 1935 - Sunday, May 7, 2017
Anita Nadine Teixeira passed away peacefully on May 7, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. Nadine, as she was known by all who knew her, was born on July 13, 1935 in Santa Maria, California to LaVerne and Georgia Evans, and grew up in Guadalupe, California. She attended Guadalupe School and graduated from Santa Maria High School in 1953. During her senior year of high school, she met her future husband, Gerald Teixeira.
After high school, while Gerald was serving in the U.S. Marine Corps., Nadine, following in her mother’s footsteps, enrolled at Knapp College of Nursing in Santa Barbara, California, where she studied to become a Registered Nurse, and graduated at the top of her class in 1956.
After graduation from Knapp College of Nursing, she worked for Dr. Albert Beekler as his office nurse. Gerald and Nadine married February 9, 1957 in Guadalupe, California, and she moved to Santa Maria. Nadine and Gerald started their family in 1959. After the birth of their son David in October, 1959, she became a stay-at-home mother, and their daughter Nita was born in March, 1962.
Nadine began working for the County of Santa Barbara Health Department in 1972, as a Clinic Nurse, and continued in that capacity until March, 1996, when she retired.
Nadine loved travelling to Hawaii, where she and Gerald had a time-share condominium for many years. She also enjoyed camping throughout the Central Coast in their fifth-wheel.
Nadine is survived by her husband of 60 years, Gerald. She is also survived by her son, David and his partner, Kent Davis of Monterey, California; daughter, Nita Windsor, her husband Brent, and granddaughter Shawna Windsor of Santa Maria, California; brothers Allen Evans of Roseville, CA and Dick Evans of Washington; sister Claudia Evans of Oakhurst, CA and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks and gratitude to Dr. Michael Haverty, Marian Home Care, and Marian Hospice. They would also like extend special thanks to Denise Tell, for her care and support.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Nadine’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, Special Olympics or VTC Enterprises, Inc. of Santa Maria.
A memorial celebration of Nadine’s life will be held at a later date.
